Syringoma is a benign skin tumor of sweat glands mostly found clustered on eyelids. The name syringoma is derived from Greek word syrinx ,means tube or pipe. The size of bumps is 1-3mm in diameter .

What is the pathophysiology of syringoma?

The exact mechanism is still unknown but consider that syringoma is a benign neoplasm that differentiates alone eccrine lines.

Some researcher also suggested that syringoma is due to hyperplastic response of the eccrine duct to an inflammatory reaction rather than a true sweat duct neoplasm.

What are the signs and symptoms of Syringoma?

  1. Syringomas are asymptomatic.
  2. In some cases there is prutitus during the sweating.
  3. Patient have a family history of same condition.
  4. Some patients may be associated with Brooke-Spengler syndrome, down syndrome , marfan’s syndrome ,and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
  5. The lesion of Syringomas are small skin-colored ,yellowish, translucent or cystic.
  6. The lesion usually smaller than 3 mm is diameter with rounded or flat surface .
  7. Lesions are usually multiple, clusters and symmetrically distributed limited to the parts of cheeks and lower eyelids , axilla, chest, abdomen, vulva and penis and dorsum of the hands .

  • Apocrine Hidrocystoma
  • Acne Vulgaris
  • Basal Cell Carcinoma
  • Cutaneous Tuberculosis
  • Granuloma Anulare
  • Microcystic Adnexal Carcinoma
  • Cowden Disease
  • Sebaceous Hyperplasia

How to diagnosed Syringoma ?

Diagnosis relies on clinical manifestation and histological findings.

How to managed Syringoma?

Usually treatment is not needed, the reason for the treatment is cosmetic propose.

The treatment options of syringoma includes:

  • CO2 laser .
  • Cryosurgery
  • Electrocautery
  • Dermabrasion
  • Oral isotretinoin and topical tretinoin.
  • Topical atropine
  • Surgical excision

What is prognosis of Syringoma ?

With good treatment there is minimal scarring and recurrence.
