Bruise is a condition in which capillaries and sometimes venules are damaged as a result of a blow to skin, allowing blood to seep into the surrounding area caused by trauma resulting as a black and blue mark.
What causes the bruise?
1. Bump into something or when something bumps into people
2. Familial or inherited
3. Blood clotting disorder
4. Blunt force, falling, sports injury
5. Using antidepressants drugs such as tricyclics or serotonin reuptake inhibitors
6. Using aspirin, fish oil, penicillin, radiation or chemotherapy, testosterone replacement therapy
What are the signs and symptoms of bruise?
- First bruise looks like reddish and later turn blue or dark purple than yellow or green after few days.
- Pain and tender area
What are the complications of bruising?
- Infection
- Compartment syndrome
- Hematoma
- Fracture
- Hypovolemic shock
What is the first aid treatment of bruise?
- Elevated the injured part
- Use NSAIDs such as ibuprofen for pain and to reduce swelling
- Unmovable of affected area
- Use cold compress such as an icepack should be applied to the affected area for 20-30 minute.
- Emergency medical treatment is required when people have large or painful bruises, abnormal bleeding in the body and who have complications.
