Hiccups is a common problem and usually go away by its self, but it may be annoying sometimes. Before knowing how to get rid of hiccups, we have to know about hiccups. Hiccups is the characteristic hiccup sound produced due to involuntary contraction of a diaphragm and suddenly spasm of the vocal cord same time.

What causes hiccups?

  1. People who smoke a lot
  2. Chronic alcoholic
  3. Eating food so fast
  4. People who have the problem is sleeping
  5. Brain tumor, meningitis and encephalitis patients
  6. Different infection, kidney failure
  7. Fast breathing

It is not dangerous but it can cause a lot of frustrations, irritation, embarrassment, discomfort and pain.

How to get rid of hiccups?

People are always worried how to stop hiccups?  Here are some hiccup remedies to get rid of hiccups; which include:

  1. Hold the breath or breathe in the plastic bag for at least 30 second but not more than 35 second.
  2. Press the palm of your hand or pinch you’re self which distract your mind and may help to stop hiccups.
  3. Drink water, take water by teaspoon and repeat until hiccups subside.
  4. Put sugar or sweat on the back of the tongue.
  5. Sometime smelling of salts may help to stop hiccups
  6. If above treatment fail to stop hiccups consult physician as soon as possible.
